- इतिहास – मानव के अतीत का अध्ययन है।
- इतिहास हमें अतीत की घटनाओं और मानव समाज के विकास को समझने में सहायता करता है।

जीवाश्म
- जीवाश्म – प्राचीन जीव-जंतुओं या पौधों के अवशेष अथवा उनके पदचिह्न हैं, जो मिट्टी या शिलाओं की परतों के बीच सुरक्षित पाए जाते हैं।
- जीवाश्मों से प्राचीन जीवों के बारे में जानकारी प्राप्त होती है।
इतिहास में समय की गणना
- अलग-अलग समाजों और संस्कृतियों में समय की गणना करने की अलग-अलग प्रणालियाँ रही हैं।
- प्रमुख घटनाओं को आधार बनाकर भी समय की गणना की जाती रही है।
- आज विश्वभर में सामान्यतः ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर का उपयोग किया जाता है।
- भारत में हिंदू, मुस्लिम, यहूदी, चीनी आदि अन्य तिथिपत्रों का भी विभिन्न अवसरों पर उपयोग होता है।
ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर
- ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर का उपयोग वर्तमान समय में विश्वभर में होता है।
- एक सामान्य वर्ष में 365 दिन होते हैं।
- एक वर्ष में 12 महीने होते हैं।
- सामान्यतः प्रत्येक चार वर्ष में एक अधिवर्ष होता है।
- शताब्दी वर्ष तभी अधिवर्ष होता है जब वह 400 से विभाजित हो सके।
- उदाहरण – 2000 अधिवर्ष था, जबकि 1800 और 1900 अधिवर्ष नहीं थे।
सा.सं. और सा.सं.पू.
- सा.सं. – सामान्य संवत; अंग्रेजी में Common Era (CE)।
- सा.सं.पू. – सामान्य संवत पूर्व; अंग्रेजी में Before Common Era (BCE)।
- ईसा मसीह के जन्म के बाद के वर्षों की गणना आगे की दिशा में की जाती है।
- ईसा मसीह के जन्म से पहले के वर्षों की गणना समय में पीछे की ओर की जाती है।
सा.सं.पू. और सा.सं. की तिथियाँ
- सा.सं.पू. की तिथियाँ अतीत की ओर जाते हुए घटती जाती हैं।
- सा.सं. की तिथियाँ आगे की ओर बढ़ती जाती हैं।
- ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर में कोई वर्ष 0 नहीं है।
- 1 सा.सं.पू. के तुरंत बाद 1 सा.सं. आता है।
सा.सं.पू. और सा.सं. के बीच वर्षों की गणना
- क्योंकि कैलेंडर में वर्ष 0 नहीं है, इसलिए दोनों तिथियों को सीधे घटाना पर्याप्त नहीं होता।
- नियम – दोनों तिथियों को जोड़कर 1 घटाया जाता है।
- सूत्र – सा.सं.पू. + सा.सं. − 1
- उदाहरण – 2 सा.सं.पू. से 2 सा.सं. तक = 2 + 2 − 1 = 3 वर्ष।
समय-रेखा
- समय-रेखा – ऐतिहासिक घटनाओं को उनकी तिथियों और क्रम के अनुसार दर्शाने वाला उपकरण है।
- समय-रेखा से विभिन्न घटनाओं का कालक्रम समझना आसान होता है।
- समय-रेखा यह समझने में सहायता करती है कि कौन-सी घटना पहले और कौन-सी बाद में हुई।
- समय-रेखा पर प्रमुख ऐतिहासिक घटनाओं को बिंदुओं द्वारा दर्शाया जा सकता है।
दशक
- दशक – 10 वर्षों का कालखंड है।
- इतिहास में लंबे समय की अवधि को समझने के लिए दशक की इकाई का उपयोग किया जाता है।
शताब्दी
- शताब्दी – 100 वर्षों का कालखंड है।
- 1 सा.सं. से प्रत्येक 100 वर्षों के लिए शताब्दी की गणना की जाती है।
- 21वीं शताब्दी 2001 से शुरू होकर 2100 तक चलेगी।
- सा.सं.पू. की शताब्दियों की गणना समय में पीछे की ओर की जाती है।
सहस्राब्दी
- सहस्राब्दी – 1000 वर्षों का कालखंड है।
- तीसरी सहस्राब्दी 2001 से 3000 तक है।
- सा.सं.पू. की सहस्राब्दियों की गणना भी समय में पीछे की ओर की जाती है।
