अध्याय-समीक्षा

जंतुओं से प्राप्त किए जाने वाले रेशे को जांतव रेशे कहते हैं |
ऊन के रेशे (फाइबर) भेड़ अथवा याक के बालों से प्राप्त किए जाते हैं। जबकि रेशम के फाइबर रेशम कीट के कोकून (कोश) से प्राप्त होते हैं।
भेड़, बकरी, याक और कुछ अन्य जंतुओं से ‘ऊन’ प्राप्त की जाती है। ऊन प्रदान करने वाले इन जंतुओं के शरीर बालों से ढके होते हैं |
बालों के बीच अधिक मात्रा में वायु आसानी से भर जाती है। यें वायु ऊष्मा की कुचालक है, अतः बाल इन जंतुओं को गर्म रखते हैं। ऊन इन रोयेंदार रेशों से प्राप्त की जाती है।
भेड़ की रोयेंदार त्वचा पर दो प्रकार के रेशे होते हैं- (i) दाढ़ी के रूखे बाल, और (ii) त्वचा के निकट अवस्थित तंतुरूपी मुलायम बाल।
भेड़ों की कुछ नस्लों में केवल तंतुरूपी मुलायम बाल ही होते हैं। इनके जनकों का विशेष रूप से ऐसी भेड़ों को जन्म देने के लिए चयन किया जाता है, जिनके शरीर पर सिर्फ मुलायम बाल हों।
तंतुरूपी मुलायम बालों जैसे विशेष गुणयुक्त भेड़ें उत्पन्न करने के लिए जनकों के चयन की यह प्रक्रिया ‘वरणात्मक प्रजनन’ कहलाती है।
याक की ऊन तिब्बत और लद्दाख में प्रचलित है |
बकरी के बालों से भी ऊन प्राप्त की जाती है अंगोरा ऊन को अंगोरा नस्ल की बकरियों से प्राप्त किया जाता है जो जम्मू एवं कश्मीर के पहाड़ी क्षेत्रों
में पाई जाती हैं |
कश्मीरी बकरी की त्वचा के निकट मुलायम बाल (फर) होते हैं, इनसे बेहतरीन शॉलें बनाई जाती हैं, जिन्हें पश्मीना शॉलें कहते हैं।
दक्षिण अमेरिका में पाए जाने वाले लामा और ऐल्पेका से भी ऊन प्राप्त होती है |
जब पाली गई भेड़ के शरीर पर बालों की घनी वृद्धि हो जाती है, तो ऊन प्राप्त करने के लिए उसके बालों को काट लिया जाता है।
भेड़ के बालों को त्वचा की पतली परत के साथ शरीर से उतार लिया जाता है यह प्रक्रिया ऊन की कटाई कहलाती है।
भेड़ों से त्वचा सहित उतारे गए बालों को टंकियों में डालकर अच्छी तरह धोया जाता है जिससे उनकी चिकनाई, धूल और गर्त निकल जाए | यह प्रक्रम अभिमार्जन कहलाता है |
